Advancing healthcare through engineering

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Intramural Research Program (IRP)’s Section on Instrumentation (SI) provides comprehensive and collaborative engineering support for researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), and the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) and the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH).

The SI provides custom-designed solutions essential for patient clinical trials and cellular and behavioral research. SI goes beyond traditional engineering, providing IRP researchers with novel tools that drive scientific discovery and accelerate the development of life-changing therapies.

We support NIH scientists in pioneering the future of healthcare by providing devices for biomedical application tailored to research needs - offering solutions that standard equipment cannot achieve. We strongly believe the impact of each project extends far beyond today, helping shape the future of healthcare so that tomorrow’s patients have more options, better outcomes, and more hope to count on.
